Parts
- Walls
- The walls are the body of the house. Brick sits on brick in a ring, with two gaps left for the door and the windows.
- Roof
- The roof is like a big hat sitting on top of the walls. It slopes, so the rain slides right down instead of staying up there.
- Tile
- The roof is covered with tiles in neat rows. Each tile overlaps the one below it, so the rain runs down the slope and away.
- Beam
- Under the tiles, strong wooden beams rest one on another. They hold the roof up, so it stays steady on the walls.
- Door
- The door is the way in and out, and it has a round handle. Hold the handle and push, and the door opens for us.
- Windows
- A window is a bright pane of glass set in the wall. Sunlight comes through, and the room inside turns light and cheery.
- Chimney
- The chimney is a tall little pipe standing on the roof. When the house is warm inside, the smoke travels up the chimney and out into the sky.

Build it
- A house starts with its walls. Brick goes on brick until they close into a ring, with two gaps left for the door and the windows.
- Next the roof goes up on top. The wooden beams are put in first, then row after row of tiles along the slope.
- Last come the door, the windows and the chimney. The door opens, the windows shine, and the house is ready to live in.
Open the door
- When the door is shut, the house stays warm and the wind cannot get in. Hold the round handle and give it a push.
- The door opens and we can go inside. Then we shut it gently behind us, so the wind stays outside.
Chimney smoke
- A small puff of smoke comes out of the chimney. It is soft and white, and it drifts up over the roof.
- The puff floats higher and higher. It grows thinner as it rises, until we cannot see it at all.
