Parts

Frame
The frame holds all the bicycle parts together and keeps them steady.
Wheels
Wheels are round. When they spin, they rumble the bicycle along. A bicycle has two wheels.
Drivetrain
The pedals, the cranks and the chain work together like a little machine that sends your power to the back wheel. Tap it and take a look inside!
Pedals
Put both feet on the pedals and push them round and round. The pedals turn and the bicycle rolls along.
Chain
The chain hides between the wheels. It carries the power from the pedals to the back wheel, and the wheel starts to spin.
Handlebar
The handlebar sits in front of your hands. Turn it left and you go left. Turn it right and you go right.
Bell
There is a shiny bell on the handlebar. Press it and it goes ring-ring, telling everybody that you are coming.
Saddle
The saddle is the seat. Sit down and you can see the road ahead. Put on your helmet and off we go!

See how it works

Ride

  1. You push the pedals, the cranks start to turn, and the chain runs along with them. The bicycle is ready to go!
  2. The chain sends your power to the back wheel, and both wheels rumble round together, spinning faster and faster.
  3. The bicycle rolls forward, the wind goes whoosh past your ears, and we glide along, steady and safe.

Brake

  1. You squeeze the brake, and the brake pads hug the wheels tight. The wheels turn slower and slower.
  2. The bicycle stops with a little squeak. Stopping slowly and smoothly keeps you safe, and nobody falls over.

Turn

  1. Turn the handlebar to the left, and the front wheel leans left too. Both wheels come around together.
  2. The bicycle follows wherever the front wheel points. Turning slowly is the safest way to go around a corner.

Ring the bell

  1. You press the bell, and it goes ring-ring, clear and bright, like a little bird singing.
  2. When the bell rings, it tells the people in front that you are coming, so please make room for you.
