This is a boat. Its engine turns the propeller, and the propeller pushes the boat along. Tap it and see what is inside!

Parts

Hull

The hull is the shell around the outside of the boat. It is hollow inside, and the air in there makes it light enough to float.

Deck

The deck is the flat floor on top of the boat, where people walk. It covers the hull and keeps the inside dry.

Cabin

The cabin is a little room on the boat, with benches and a small table. It is a cosy place to sit down and rest.

Bridge

The bridge sits high up, with big windows at the front. The driver stands here and turns the wheel to steer the boat.

Engine room

The engine room is hidden deep inside the boat, under the floor. The engine and the shaft live here.

Engine

Inside the engine, round pistons slide up and down. That makes it turn, and it turns the long shaft with it.

Shaft

The shaft is a long metal rod. One end joins the engine and the other end joins the propeller, so the turning reaches the back of the boat.

Propeller

The propeller is at the back of the boat, with curved blades like a little windmill. It spins and pushes the water backwards, so the boat moves forwards.

Anchor

The anchor is a heavy hook on a long chain. It drops down from the front of the boat, grips the bottom, and holds the boat in one place.
